About the Kingdom

The Kingdom of Varavihara is a sovereign city state established on a previously terra nullius tract of land northeast of Preah Vihear Temple. Although proximate, the temple itself remains outside our borders.

Government

Varavihara is governed under a hereditary monarchy. Royal directives are issued through the Royal Chancellery in a spirit of measured but swift governance.

Territory

The kingdom has a surface are of roughly 0.87 km², mostly consisting of untouched dry forest, and is bordered by the Kingdom of Thailand to the north and the west and by the Kingdom of Cambodia to the south and the east.

The King's Declaration of Independence

I hereby, on June 19th 2025, lay claim on the hitherto unclaimed pocket of land to the northeast of the Preah Vihear temple — laying inbetween the intersection of the national boundaries claimed by the Kingdom of Thailand and the Kingdom of Cambodia (at 14°24'28.8"N; touching the edge of the territory disputed therebetween) and the point at which they have ostensibly come into agreement again (at 104°41'22.7"E) — and myself as its Supreme Sovereign, King Sirius I. I refer to the Annex I map (ICJ, 1962) for the boundary maintained by the Kingdom of Cambodia (most recently reaffirmed on June 5th 2025), and to a Thai boundary study (1966) for the boundary maintained by the Kingdom of Thailand (most recently reaffirmed on June 4th 2025). Glory and prosperity be upon our nascent Nation.
